Nissan named their trucks Datsun because they didn’t think Americans would like the name Nissan.
It’s refreshing to know buildings that long ago thrived and then became empty and dilapidated, as shown in this picture, are now thriving once again. I’m in my eighties and I remember neighborhoods that used to be run-down has-beens full of empty storefronts now revitalized and go-to destinations for Portlanders. I also remember locking the doors and rolling up the windows of my car when I drove down N Mississippi or NE Alberta due to the crime rates back in the 70s. Now I can’t get a parking spot on those streets when I visit there because they are so popular. I also remember back in the 50s when I lived in a three story house in the Hollywood District, when I couldn’t see downtown or the West Hills because of the pollution. Now the air is much clearer. Things are much better now than they were then.
Jack- Nice comment. I agree, Portland is much nicer than in the 70’s and the 80’s.
If you are wondering why I posted N Killingsworth at N Borthwick its because originally the picture was posted as N. Killingsworth at N Killingsworth. They then corrected it. Why they didn’t say posting has been corrected is beyond me.
