This fire fighter’s rock garden was located at Station 32 in St. Johns, 1934. One of a few such gardens located at fire stations around Portland at that time, this garden was in front of the former St Johns City Hall building where the fire station and the Police Bureau’s North Precinct were located.
This image of Engine 3 illustrates a transition from horse drawn fire engines to motorization. This American LaFrance steam engine was originally made to be pulled by a horse team, but was retrofitted with a Christie motorized tractor. By 1920 all Portland fire apparatus was motorized. Circa 1917.
