This is a fun action shot of people lawn bowling in Westmoreland Park on January 27, 1946. Construction of the lawn bowling facilities was completed in 1945. You can read more about the history and construction of the park by clicking here.
Here we have an excellent aerial of what is now Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus located on N Killingsworth Street. The school began as a small Christian College which transferred its holdings to the entity that created PCC. The campus has transformed and expanded over the years since this photograph was taken, circa 1969. In the lower left corner you can see the Jefferson High School football field, and to the right of the field, the Multnomah County Library North Portland branch. In the upper left of the image you can see Ockley Green School and the defunct streetcar barns near N Jessup. In the upper right you can see the Peninsula Park Rose Garden.
Today we have an interior image from City Hall. We can see city employees loading records into the vault. Look at the size of some of those books! This image is from August 8, 1940, yet we still refer to some of those volumes today.
This photograph shows Union Station’s exterior from NW Johnson St. The image includes the National Express Company, horse drawn carriages, the Olympia Hotel sign, and a Mascot billboard.

Today was have a photograph of the Rankin Airstrip during the construction phase on N Union Ave near N Columbia St. The inscription written on the back of the image stated, “Plane and hangar 1930. While construction and grading was going on.”
