  1. Building still there. The front steps and brick seem to not have changed but the building went through some changes.

  2. This building was built by Frederick E Trappe & Emma V Trappe in 1904.

Frederick and Emma were both from Germany and Frederick was a self employed barber who indicated on the 1910 US Census that he worked from his home at 1194 Milwaukie, which today is the building shown here at SE Milwaukie Ave & SE Knight. Frederick died in January 1923 at the age of 58 years, and Emma died in June 1930 at the age of 57 years. When Emma died here death announcement showed she was not living at the Milwaukie residence.

Published building permit in the Oregon Journal August 1904 for this building.

August 15, F. W. Trappe, cottage on Milwaukie between South (now SE Knight) and Avenue streets. Cost $700

  3. I want the blue and white street sign and the fire alarm call box. Now to get into my time machine and set the date and place……

  4. Was this the former location of the Sellwood branch of Multnomah County Library (in 1970s and 1980s when Library Association of Portland managed library service in Portland?

  5. 1955 Packard Clipper (two tone paint, unique bulbous taillights) in front of the building with a black Cadillac lurking around the corner.

  6. Janet this building was not a library. In 1965 the library moved to 7904 SE Milwaukie ave. (SE Milwaukie & SE Lexington).
