NW Portland Aerial View, 1951

Wrapping up the week and the last two days’ posts of the Guild’s Lake Courts with this fine overhead view of NW Portland from 1951. The entire Guild’s Lake wartime housing complex can be seen in the photo center. Many other landmarks are visible including the old Vaughn Street ballpark. It appears that this photo was used for some preliminary sketches of a potential Fremont  Bridge and freeway access through Northwest.

NW Industrial District, c1929

An interesting aerial view of the Northwest Industrial District showing proposed routes of NW Front and Yeon Avenues. At this time Front stopped at Nicolai Street (lower left corner) and Yeon had not yet been built. Yeon would meet St. Helens Road at the foot of Forest Park.

Aerial View, Willamette River, 1935

In 1935 both east and west Willamette River waterfronts were still highly industrialized. This image looks north as the river flows through Portland.
