SE Foster Rd & 52nd, 1937

Here’s another look at SE Foster Road at 52nd Avenue, this time looking east down the south side of Foster. It appears all the commercial buildings have changed over the years but the residences along 52nd are still in place. Today’s hot rod builders would probably go nuts over the original parts in the Foster Road Auto Wreckers building.

SE 39th Ave & Stark, 1949

Monday’s photo at SE 39th and Belmont had so many comments that I thought this companion photo might be as well received. This was taken just a few blocks north, looking south down SE 39th at Stark Street on the same date. Those linemen can be seen rewiring the utility poles in this photo too.

SE 52nd Ave & Foster, 1937

This was a curious little golf shack on the corner of SE 52nd Avenue and Foster Road back in 1937; surely there wasn’t a golf course anywhere near here. The triangular lot between Foster and SE Bush had an Associated Gas Station like the one we saw recently in St. Johns. And the tile-roofed diner is still on the south side of Bush today.

N Columbia & Oswego, c1932

This quaint and stylish gas station is identified as standing on N. Columbia Blvd. at Oswego Street. I find no reference to it on Sanborn maps and the curve of Columbia Blvd., complete with rails, doesn’t seem right to me. Can anyone confirm or refute this location?
