E Burnside & SE 18th Avenue, 1929

On the sunny day in 1929 when our Number Man documented the corner at SE 14th Avenue, he probably made his way four blocks east on E. Burnside to get this photo at 18th Avenue. The building is still intact and home to East Burn.

Goose Hollow Aerial, 1932

This is a southwest-facing aerial view of the Goose Hollow area in 1932. From the Vista Avenue Viaduct and the old Multnomah Athletic Club on the right, to Portland Heights on the left, there is plenty of detail to pore over in this terrific photo. There are not many single family homes left today in the areas straddling SW Jefferson and SW 18th Avenue.

SW 18th, Morrison & Burnside, 1945

We’ve seen this area several times before but never from this unique aerial perspective. We’re looking north on SW 18th Avenue with SW Morrison at the bottom and W Burnside at the top. It’s interesting to see the mid-lane parking on SW 18th; cars are parked facing both directions.

W Burnside & 19th, 1938

Traffic is heavy where W. Burnside meets SW 18th and 19th Avenues and Alder Street in this 1938 photo. Hard to tell what traffic control system they had in place at that time but it looks like all directions are on the move, including pedestrians. Part of Portland Firefighters Park can be seen on the left.
