Is this the same company as Sam Schnitzer’s Alaska Junk Co.? (Now known as Schnitzer Steel.) The Alaska Junk Co. used to have a facility down by the Willamette River, visible from one of the bridges back in the 1950s.
Robin : Alaska Junk started in 1906 and after approx. 60 years Alaska Junk changed their name to Alaska Steel.
Robin, a number of us had a lively discussion about Alaska Junk Co./Schnitzer Steel last month (August 27). Just look for “SW Front Avenue, circa 1930“ in VP and you can enjoy reading all our comments!
