  1. A search through the “Historical Oregonian” database for that address yields 8 ads placed between June 23 and October 23, 1949 for used cars sold from it One of them, as an example: “BUICK 1942 Super Four-Door Sedan — Radio and heater. Beautiful light green finish. Very good condition thruout. Initial payment, $245, balance GMAC terms. Full price, $725. 1440 SW Washington Street.”

Perhaps the building was turned into a car dealership? But if so, I wonder why no other “hits” appear in the search results?

  2. What does the extra “P” mean as part of PFD (Portland Fire Department) on the building, “Public”, “Professional”, what?

  3. According to the Oregonian the Portland Paid Fire Department was organized December 28, 1882 and attended their first fire January 9, 1883 at the Hotel Osmond. Damage was slight.
