  1. After examining the house in the photo with a somewhat similar house along NE 33rd I withdraw my guess of Wilshire Park. Chimney doesn’t match on the house.

  2. I, too, hope that when pictures such as this are posted that someone will say something like, “That’s me on the far right!”

  3. It reminds me of the of the old Childrens Museum in SW Portland just off the freeway with the Ross island bridge exit below

I remember the round ride in the background

  4. Agree, Jim Hanset got it — nice job! The house in the background is still there with the detached garage and the garden plot on the right (1346 NE 57th is the address of the house).

  5. Kudos to Jim and Brian for calling this one right as Normandale Park. Having grown up around there, I kind of thought that spot looked familiar. But I was too slow to throw in my two cents. The kids and reader are perched amid tall firs on a grassy knoll that rises from the lower ball-playing open fields leaving a clear view to the East and NE 57th. It’s somewhat visible through the trees if you zoom in the Google street view. And indeed that house is still there on the oversized lot.

  6. Kudos to PMC for getting it (and adding the links) within five minutes of it being posted! Thank-you! PS If we time-travelled the children they’d be 75 years old. Wonderful summertime-in-the-park photo.

  7. It looks like a park I’ve seen in the 40’s or 50’s but don’t remember the name. Go to the library and check out the parks in those time frames.
