Washington Park Zoo, 1963

Aerial of the Washington Park Zoo, 1963. The old OMSI (currently the Children’s Museum) site is visible as well. For those who remember the giant floral clock, it can be seen in the center of the image at the head of the parking area.

  1. This was also where Sam Jackson was killed. His grandfather founded the Oregon Journal, his Uncle Phil ran it and Sam, in his 30’s, was going to take it over. But, well, there was a farm on the site then. It was 1948, the Cronin family, they were in development around here, maybe the dairy was closing. I think the guy’s name was Robert Cronin — he got Sam into this helicopter he had up there and they crashed.
