I remember the bridge originally had two sidewalks, one later removed about 1960 to add 9 ” to each lane.
Worst access to any bridge in Portland. Plus they destroyed an historic neighborhood of Victorian houses to accomplish that feat.
Interesting early internal combustion powered excavator. Apparently crawler mounted. Who was the contractor on this project.
I grew up a few blocks away in the early 70’s when these houses where “downscale” rented to “hippies”.
Looks like a carriage bucket excavator.its boom down.
Don’t know why, but they seemed more common working urban areas. Probably on wheels too, But impossible to say.
