  1. I think it is looking Northeast. Here’s a shot in the same direction from 1935, where you can see we’re looking downhill.

    Is that really a residence above the horse? It’s there in the 1935 picture as well.

  2. The horse is almost emaciated as the elk. The local Elks Club famously refused to dedicate the Thompson Fountain because they thought it was a “monstrosity of art.”

  3. A friend of mine ran into this statue back in the 70’s (drunk) and was pulled over and had to pay the city back for damages.
