1949 so this would be after the Zoo moved from the location off of West Burnside to a location near where the Japanese Gardens now are. The move to the present location did not come till 1959
I remember that zoo and that bear pit and how horrible it was for the animals. It made me so sad, and I have never enjoyed zoos since.
I wish they would have saved the “Owl castle.” Not to keep owls in but just cause I think it looks neat.
Does anybody recognize the grade school class in this picture? I sure remember those end of the year field trips & picnics, and the old Portland Zoo.
