  1. I love this photo. It reminds me of a couple of years ago when a tall ship came into SF. It was a from Vladivostok, Russia. It was a training ship & we watched a bunch of young men scamper up the masts & roll down the sails. It was great to watch.

  2. Wow, what a great photo! It reminds us of a Portland we don’t often think about. A book called “Portland’s Lost Waterfront” is a great read about our maritime heritage.

  3. As a kid, The neighbor, a retired Seafarer worked aboard sailing vessels.
    I didn’t really understand at the time, But said he knew the sail days were short numbered. So he applied himself to learn steam engineering.
    Had fair collection of photos of these ships, places he’d been. Best of all, a ‘colorful’ manner to describe life of a Sailor.
