Lived there 88-90, 2226 NW Hoyt Casa Linda, owned by a Doctor
This is at 2226 NW Hoyt. I went to see if this is correct and it is – if you Google 2226 MW Hoyt, you can see the original apartment building, after it was remodeled and the other buildings further up on NW Hoyt Street
Well that was no fun. Found by 6:15 AM in the morning and required little to no detective work. lol
Great job guys.
From here, the only thing that would be interesting is if that bold text can be undone.
Amazing! 🙂
I see the remodel decreased the size of the first floor balconies and opened up the garden level apartment entrances by converting the balcony support columns into raised planter stands.
I wonder if it the remodel was for ascetic purposes or for increased security…or both?
Great times on NW Hoyt Street before it gentrified! I lived there in the late ’70’s and could walk downtown to go to classes (Bassist Institute!) and work (Lipman’s and Nordstrom).
Is this really from 1977? What’s the newest car in the picture? The left beetle is a 1973 at latest…but might be a late 60’s model.
I had a friend who live within site of that building in the 1980s. I used to look at those green sun-porch type thingies and think how cool they looked.
NW ptld. Believe it was on 19, 20, or 24th Street. Lived there.
Nice sleuthing. I agree with Brian R.
…now if someone could just help me find my glasses…..
Igor..title says “circa’.
I believe that this is on NW Flanders between 21st. and 22nd. The address of the second building on the left had side (gray victorian house) is 2124 N.W. Flanders. I know it is becouse I managed it for ten years.
OOPS! I was wrong. It was on NW Hoyt. Sorry..
Robert Taylor, mistaken, dear, not wrong. You just got the wrong streets, mistakes are human , I do it every time I do something. Knew this was NW, wish the area still looked this gorgeous… 😢😢
But what’s a number man?
I love this building. My best friend managed that building until 2005. I love Casa Linda
Left VW is a 1971 or 1972 “Super Beetle” (can’t tell which without looking at rear deck lid [engine cover]); Right VW is a 1963 or 1964
… and the vehicle behind them is, of course, a Corvair, or an example of a failed attempt by GM to cash in on the success of the VW.
Loved that building. And the “extra room” apartment my friends had in there. I lived at 2268 from 2003-2007-ish. Always wished I moved into their building instead.
The rear of the car on the far right is a 1964 Oldsmobile.
We lived in the basement apartment on the right in 1972-3. The two apartments with private entrances were considered ‘uptown’ at that time. I loved it there, We walked everywhere
Thank you to everyone that helped us out with this image! We have updated the information to reflect the location that you helped us find!
Building has been there since 1911. Was known as the Houseman Apartments when my architect kinsman, Ewald T. Pape, lived there in 1924.
This house is on N.W. Flanders. I lived at 2124 NW Flanders and this house is several houses up from my place on Flanders street
Nope, it’s 2226 NW Hoyt Street, the Casa Linda Apartments today. Still there, just slightly remodeled.
It is on N.E. Flanders Street. Below is an image address of it.

Cubby Obrien — When I was new to Vintage Portland, I asked what a number man was, and another reader directed me to the explanation, which is at:

@Bob Taylor, I respectfully disagree. The image link you posted looks nothing like the building in the photograph. If you read earlier comments on this post, the consensus is that it is the Casa Linda Apartments (formerly the Houseman Apartments) at 2227 NE Hoyt.
