Interesting to see that Meier and Frank had a large sign on the top of their building.
I do believe that interesting triangle-ish building just West of Jackson Tower was the Greyhound bus terminal before it moved into the new building built on the site of the Corbett mansion.
I don’t see a sign on top of Meier & Frank.
Oh, I do see i now!
It is unfortunate that Meier & Frank demolished the Portland Hotel in 1951. Based on the photos I’ve seen, it looked like a beautiful building. However, because they did demolish it and erected a parking structure, this eventually resulted in the beloved Pioneer Courthouse Square.
I wish I could have seen the Portland Hotel. It looks like a cool building…and a great location for filming Grimm.
Seeing the J.K. Gill store from this angle caused my mind to wander back to that little coney island shop that was next door on 5th. He sold them thru a window and there was a counter inside with 7 or 8 stools and a sink with a narrow isle between the counter and the stove. He always had this huge pot of chili bubbling away next to the window. Man those were the best coneys ever, I’d sometimes order a bowl of that chili and then wind up eating 2 or 3 of those coneys for desert. Lunch hour would see a long line in any weather.
Amazing to see from this angle!
The building across Yamhill St from the Pioneer Courthouse appears to have construction work going on because of the odd things in the street and on the sidewalk around it.
