  1. @Mike and Harry. They are on the school grounds of the prewar Glenhaven Elementary School. That school would be requisitioned by the War Dept and after it was returned the original building was modernized and a wing was added as well as several portable class rooms in order to meet the demands of the rapidly growing student population. The fenced school grounds were expanded to the edge of 82nd.
During the emergency the student body was dispersed to Vestal and Gregory Heights until they too were over crowded. In 1948 with the completion of the Binford and Middleton Apartment complexes resulting in further population explosion the student body was bused to Marysville in SE Portland on contracted city buses. The school finally reopened for the 50-51 school year and not long after further expansion was undertaken. Shortly after 2 brand new K-3 schools were constructed in this schools district followed by Madison High on the bluff in the distance.
