  1. Looks like the Now Muffler shop on the Corner of Wall and Lombard, that building. Also looking at the road, the old trolley track on the street there. Thanks Craig PS Love the pictures everyday

  2. Just sent you an email, and yes the picture is of that area in North Portland, because I also see the old house a block to the east from there that I drive by every day. Thanks Craig

  3. Love the quiz photo’s…and what fun to compare “yesterday” & “today”!
My ol’ mouse always gets quite the workout, clicking back and forth!

    Thanks!🙂

  4. HET CRAIG …. YOU HAVE TO BE RELATED TO MEL OSBECK !!! USED TO REALLY ENJOY HIS OLD ” TOP DECK ” RESTAURANT ON N. INTERSTATE OVER THE MOTEL OFFICE. MAYBE ” VP ” HAS A PICTURE SOMEWHERE IN IT’S ARCHIVES ( ?? ). I THINK HE LATER HAD A PLACE AT ” T ” OF LOMBARD & GREELEY NEXT TO OLD ” KIENOW’S ” GROCERY . NO. PORTLAND & ST.JOHNS WERE GREAT PLACES TO WORK BACK IN THE 1960’S & EARLY 1970’S.

  5. PMC seems on the right track, although looking at the modern map shouldn’t the North Portland Railroad Cut be visible at the top of the picture? (BTW, interesting article about the history of the Cut in the 2010 issue (PDF) of the St. Johns Review.

  6. stiefve you are correct but the photo is not over far enough. The street on the far left is Macrum. and the intersection at the bottom left is Princeton and macrum

  7. It’s definitely N Portland. My house would be built nearly smack in the middle of this photo a few years later. The tracks in that mostly vacant lot were (I believe, but have no evidence) at one time an alley behind our house, but at some point in the intervening years, it was converted to backyard. Both our and our neighbors house are on 107.5′ deep lots, which is consistent with a 15′ foot alley (and there are lots of those around the area).

Only the southern half of that treed area is McKenna Park, the rest is now houses. The street running through the middle is N Westanna Ave.

Now if you want a real mystery, figure out how N Westanna got its name.

  8. Timechanges.net – I book marked your sight. I love the old and new photos right next to each other. It’s so much easier to compare. I hope you keep adding photos. They are fantastic.
