  1. The original location was due to the proximity to the railroad track in a time before the truck became practical. Time sensitive produce was shipped by railroad ice cooled refrigerator cars, note the bin marked Florida, and was expedited and spotted for unloading immediately upon arrival at Portland. Hence the location on the mainline. These types of business were switched several times a day.The advent of the refrigerated truck made it possible to move up out of the flood plain and that was a big deal.

    Sheridan remains a great place to shop for it’s deli and ethnic food selections yet today in my opinion.
