Here we see the “number man” standing outside Nick’s Flower Home in 1929. This building was located at 4040 NE Union Avenue between NE Mason Street and Shaver Street. As most of you know, Union Ave. became Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. These building are no longer standing.
I remember that place from the 60s. It had a different name at that time.
Nice little dent in the back of the Ford. I would love to have that greenhouse!
I’m guessing by the sun angle. Was it on the east side of the street?
You’re right, Dan S.
East side; later purchased by Erv Lind Florist (Union and Knott St.) prior to closing. Back in the days before “flowers from wherever” it was from the hot house or not!
They sure replaced it with an odd building. Street View: http://goo.gl/maps/K1Eno
Oops, I just realized, that’s where the MLK mural is!

That’s right. Erv Lind. Passed that place often as a teen.
Dave Brucker, those aren’t the same buildings – the one with the mural is 4008 NE MLK, built in 1910. I think the Irvington Covenant Church sits where the florist’s shop was.
