NE Union & Schuyler, 1929

It’s been many years since Portland has seen a curbside gas pump like this one. Haugen Motor Service and Red Crown Gasoline  have also been gone for years but it appears this building is still on the northeast corner of NE Union and Schuyler Street, as is the house behind it to the right.

  1. Norman Haugen still owns his families muffler business on MLK and Thompson. His family own a lot of what was NE Union in the past. Great shot, can’t wait to share it with him.

  2. Ole Haugen was one of the pioneers of skiing on Mt. Hood. At one time he was held up at this garage and shot in the head. He survived this attack.

  3. I was wrong. The garage at which Ole was robbed was the current location at MLK (Union) and Thompson. I am not sure when there was a move from the Schuyler location.
