SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy & 25th, 1964

Except for highway improvements, this stretch of SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, just west of SW 25th, looks much the same today as it did in 1964. There’s still a school crossing warning sign in about that same spot, and it’s a little more densely treed now, but rampant construction has not marred the almost rural feeling.

  1. I was a second grader at Robert Gray in 1964 and recently I moved back to the area. You’re right. This spot hasn’t changed very much at all. I remember the family who lived in that white house…now a series of apartment buildings line that area. Just a little further to the right and over the gully would be the track lines for the Red Electric. Great rainy day shot.

  2. This stretch of road was actually part of Dosch Road, before the highway from Bertha to Beaverton was opened in late 1919.

  3. Great pic. I live off of BH Hwy and know the area well. Gotta watch your speed through there these days as it is posted rediculously low in that stretch into Hillsdale.

  4. This is the Route of the Southern Pacific Electric Train. My Aunt said she had ran down to see a Train accident here back in 1920. It was a head on crash. 8 people lost there lives. after the above picture was taken my brother fell out of my grandmothers car on this stretch of road.
