The 1875 Strowbridge Building is one of Portland’s cast-iron success stories. The wave of destruction of these buildings in the 1940s through the early 1970s spared the Strowbridge despite obvious signs of disrepair and a disastrous ground floor remodel seen here. Today it stands beautifully restored on the corner of SW 1st and Yamhill.
There is a great post currently on Cafe Unknown about the loss of so many of the beautiful Cast Iron buildings in Portland for the sake of parking lots.

I know this was posted 10 years ago, but I just found it. My grandparents owned Ace Trading Store and we used to get to go to Dave’s Delicatessen if we were good when we visited. I don’t think our family has any other photos of the store, so thanks for the good memories!
