SW Yamhill & Park, Part 2

I had earlier posted a photo of SW Yamhill looking east from SW Park. This view, also circa 1933, is from the same corner but looking south. The Fox tower now occupies the block to our immediate left, replacing the bus terminal and series of small businesses farther down the block. The Admiral Hotel (now apartments) is clearly visible across SW Taylor. Beyond is the Old Heathman Hotel, now Park Tower Apartments.

  1. About the Heathman …
Was the original Heathman on Park and the Broadway location the “new” hotel built in 1984? These buildings were back to back? And is the Park frontage still there?

  2. The Heathman and the New Heathman operated concurrently for some years. They were both built in the 1920s, I think about 1924 and 1927 respectively. You can see the top of the New Heathman in the photo, it’s got the diamond-shaped brickwork pattern at top center, just under the “OTEL” sign. Here’s one of their ads showing both hotels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Heathman_ad.jpeg. And yes, both buildings are extant.
