SE 12th & Division, 1937

May 17, 2012

You could stand on SE 12th Avenue near Division Street today, squint, and just about imagine this scene. That 76 station no longer pumps gas but the building is still there. In 1937 Elliot Avenue met this intersection directly from the northeast; now it jogs slightly to the west joining 12th a bit to the north of Division.  See another angle on that gas station here.

Steel Bridge Approaches, c1950

November 14, 2011

Harbor Drive approaches to and from the Steel Bridge are shown in this circa 1950 photo looking north. Front Street parallels Harbor Drive on the left and the intersection with the DeSoto and Blitz billboards is at Davis Street. Some of this roadwork still exists.

SE Elliott & 12th, 1937

August 18, 2010

The natural gas storage tanks were still in place just a couple blocks away from where SE Elliott meets 12th Avenue just north of Division. Burt White’s 76 gasoline station was ready to fill your roadster in this 1937 photo.
