14th and Broadway, circa 1929

Today we have a photograph from 1929. This image is looking east from 14th Ave on Broadway before the Broadway widening project. You can see Ziegler’s Drug Store and the MacMarr Store, which was a grocery store.

    McMarrs would eventually be sold to Safeway who later moved the store down the street a few blocks.

    Looks like somebody planted some trees around 1900 or so.

    Those are really large street trees for that era, looks like Honeylocusts – easily 40 yrs old at the time.

    Is that a theater marque entrance beyond the cleaners on the right?
