NE 41st & Sandy, 1934

I believe the depression-era business lurking in the shadows on the northeast corner of NE 41st and Sandy is the Fred Meyer store. There’s a Rite-Aid in that location now, and I don’t think any of the houses up the west side of 41st exist either.

  1. The shadows in this photo are wonderful. April 12th…and the flowers are blooming. Love the running boards on the old vehicles!

  2. Since the city bought for and installed those address tiles the year before ( it three years to install all of them) no wonder they look good.

  3. Perhaps everyone already knows this but those address tiles are still available from Rejuvenation. I bought some for my house in Eugene just for a touch of Portland expat nostalgia.
