SE 39th & Powell, 1937

Today we look south on SE 39th Avenue where it crosses Powell Blvd. We saw this intersection looking east in an earlier post. The 1935 photo showed a Signal gas station on the northeast corner; this would put a service station on at least three of the corners. Very competitive!

Check out the cool stoplight on the corner.

It’s grown up a little. The 76 station moved across the street. http://g.co/maps/angdg

It’s not particularly beautiful in this photo and it’s not particularly beautiful today either. Part of the problem is that service stations ruin corners.
